Morrisons has announced the closure of one of its stores. The Morrisons Daily outlet at Parkwood Green Shopping Centre in Rainham, Kent, will be closing its doors for the final time on July 3.

The decision to shut down the store came after a strategic review conducted by the supermarket chain. Local residents have expressed disappointment over the news, particularly concerned about the impact on elderly shoppers. Starting in July, customers will have to visit alternative Morrisons Daily stores on Luton Road and Admiral Walk in Chatham. Additionally, larger Morrisons supermarkets in Walderslade and Strood are available nearby.

A spokesperson for Morrisons informed the Sun that the closure was a challenging but necessary step as part of their efforts to enhance competitiveness and value for customers. The focus now is on supporting affected employees, with efforts being made to offer them opportunities at other Morrisons locations.

The closure announcement has elicited shock and sadness from several shoppers, who believe it will have a significant effect on the local community. Last year, Morrisons closed 17 smaller Morrisons Daily stores across the UK, with a total of 103 Morrisons sites ceasing operations in 2025, including cafes, florists, and pharmacies.

Morrisons had previously explained that the closures were unavoidable due to operational costs being out of line with customer demand. The company’s chief executive, Rami Baitieh, emphasized that in certain locations, closure and reallocation of space were the most sensible options.

This closure news follows Morrisons’ recent decision to reduce prices on popular products as part of its ongoing commitment to providing value to customers.
