A man in Pennsylvania, Michael Mikula, 68, was arrested on charges including abuse of a corpse, neglecting a dependent person, recklessly endangering another person, and tampering with evidence after authorities discovered the deceased body of his wife, Sharlene Mikula, aged 66, in their South Londonderry Township home. Police reported that the woman had been deceased for at least a month before her body was found during a welfare check at the residence.

Local officials alleged that Mikula had taken deliberate actions to hide his wife’s body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition when uncovered by officers on April 14. The Lebanon County District Attorney mentioned that the smell of decomposition was noticeable outside the property when law enforcement arrived in the afternoon.

Initially, Mikula denied his wife’s presence to the police through a Ring doorbell but later admitted to her passing when her body was discovered in their bedroom. He claimed he had not committed any wrongdoing, although authorities stated that he was aware of her death and had attempted to conceal it. The exact cause of Mrs. Mikula’s death remains undetermined due to the advanced decomposition, hindering investigative efforts.

Following the recovery of Mrs. Mikula’s body, officials stated that Mikula did not seek medical help for his wife before her death or notify anyone afterward. He was charged with neglect resulting in death and is currently in custody on a $100,000 bail. Prosecutors indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with Mikula scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 23.
