Weather forecasting maps indicate that temperatures are set to climb to 26C in certain parts of the UK. The data reveals that approximately 74 counties spanning England, Scotland, and Wales will experience temperatures reaching or exceeding 20C at the beginning of May, with Northern Ireland expecting a high of 19C.

According to the GFS weather model, temperatures are projected to increase starting on May 4, reaching 21C and 22C in significant areas of southern and central England. North Wales may also witness highs of 21C around 6pm.

The temperature is anticipated to continue rising throughout the week, peaking at 24C in the south-east on May 5, particularly in London. Some locations in Scotland could reach 20C by 6pm, while Wales might experience highs of 23C.

The warmest day is predicted to be May 6, with temperatures soaring to 26C in and around London. The Midlands, Yorkshire, and East Anglia could also see highs of 24C or 25C. However, Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to have slightly cooler temperatures.

Overall, the maps illustrate that 74 counties or county boroughs could witness temperatures of 20C or higher over a three-day period, with the south-east of England experiencing the hottest weather.

Despite the rising temperatures, this early May warm spell is not anticipated to meet the criteria for an official heatwave, which requires temperatures to meet or exceed the heatwave threshold for three consecutive days. This threshold ranges from 25C to 28C across the UK, reaching 28C in the south-east and decreasing to 25C in the northern regions.
