“Chemical Scare Prompts Evacuation Near Derby Station”

A situation involving the discovery of potentially dangerous chemicals has led to the evacuation of numerous residences and establishments.

Authorities responded to a report concerning chemicals found at a business location on Midland Road, close to Derby Railway Station, around 10:30 am on Tuesday. The substances were uncovered during routine activities at the business, with no criminal implications as per Derbyshire Police.

A 100-meter cordon has been established, resulting in the evacuation of several properties and the closure of seven roads as a precautionary measure while emergency services handle the situation, according to a police spokesperson.

The closure of multiple roads due to the ongoing incident has impacted bus services in the area. Arriva has provided updates on service diversions, including alterations for routes 1A, 1C, and 2.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is assisting Derbyshire Constabulary in managing the incident. Authorities advise avoiding the affected area due to road closures, with alternative routes recommended.

Collaborative efforts between Derbyshire Police, the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, Derby City Council, East Midlands Ambulance Service, and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are underway to address the situation effectively.

Updates on the incident will be shared through official channels, including the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page and the force’s website.

As a safety precaution, students and staff at a nearby school, Castleward Spencer Academy, have been instructed to remain indoors until the incident is resolved.
