Millions of mobile and broadband users have the opportunity to avoid upcoming price increases by taking proactive measures now. According to Uswitch, around eight million broadband subscribers and 14 million mobile users are currently not under contract and could save money by exploring other options.

It is crucial not to overlook the potential for bill increases by staying inactive and failing to seek out better deals or negotiate with current providers. Several major companies, including O2, Virgin, Three, and Vodafone, are planning to raise prices starting today.

Recent regulations have prohibited mobile and broadband companies from tying mid-contract price hikes to inflation, ensuring that customers are informed of any bill increases in clear monetary terms. With the potential to collectively save £633, telecoms expert Ernest Doku from Uswitch highlights the substantial savings that consumers could achieve by taking action promptly.

Switching providers can lead to average savings of £329 for broadband customers, while mobile users can save around £304 by switching from handset contracts to SIM-only deals. The current market offers robust deals due to intense competition among providers, especially in the broadband sector.

If you are currently out of contract, chances are you are paying more than necessary for your mobile and broadband services. Before comparing prices elsewhere, assess your current usage needs in terms of minutes, texts, or broadband speed to avoid paying for unnecessary allowances.

Utilize comparison websites like Uswitch, Compare the Market, Confused.com, or MoneySupermarket to identify the most cost-effective deals available. After comparing prices online, consider switching to a new provider if a better deal is found, or negotiate with your current provider for better rates.

In cases where existing providers cannot offer lower prices, consider switching to take advantage of potential incentives available through cashback websites. Individuals claiming benefits should explore eligibility for discounted social tariffs, with prices starting as low as £12 per month for broadband and £10 for mobile services.

Universal Credit recipients automatically qualify, while other benefits such as Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Personal Independence Payment, and Attendance Allowance may also be accepted. Broadband Genie research indicates that around 5.3 million households are eligible for the reduced tariff, yet many are not currently utilizing it.

Contact your broadband or mobile provider to determine your eligibility for the social tariff.
