Pope Leo, during his visit to Africa, emphasized the importance of challenging the influence of the wealthy and powerful individuals, following criticisms from Donald Trump. In a gathering with Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, and other leaders, the Pope called for a conscience evaluation and a decisive step forward to break the chains of corruption that tarnish authority and credibility. He also highlighted the necessity of freeing hearts from a profit-focused mindset and urged for an end to the conflict in Anglophone Cameroon, which has resulted in numerous casualties.

The ongoing exchange between Pope Leo and Trump escalated as the U.S. President rebuked the pontiff’s stance on international affairs, particularly regarding Iran. Trump labeled the Pope as weak on crime and foreign policy, expressing his disapproval of the Pope’s views. In response, the Pope reaffirmed his position, stating that he remains unfazed by the Trump administration.

In another development, the Pope delivered a message condemning arrogance and advocating for humility and love as the foundations of God’s Kingdom. This declaration was followed by JD Vance disputing the Pope’s assertion that God does not side with those who engage in warfare, citing the historical just war theory. Vance, speaking at an event, emphasized the possibility of differing opinions on the justifiability of conflicts.

The Vatican’s editorial director, Andrea Tornielli, countered Vance’s argument by highlighting the evolution of warfare and the ethical dilemmas posed by modern weaponry, contrasting the historical context in which traditional war theories were developed. Tornielli emphasized the shift in understanding that war is not a viable solution in contemporary times due to the destructive capabilities of advanced weaponry.
