A monumental sugar sculpture resembling London’s famous Tower Bridge has been unveiled, showcasing intricate details and craftsmanship. Constructed using over 25kg of sugar, equivalent to almost 100,000 calories, this replica took more than 150 hours to complete. Standing at nearly two-and-a-half feet tall, the artwork features meticulously designed windows, doors, and suspension rods, capturing the essence of the iconic bridge.
Renowned artist Michelle Wibowo meticulously studied the architectural elements of bascule and suspension bridges before embarking on creating this masterpiece. The sculpture, a highlight of Kellogg’s ‘Reductive Art Exhibition – a story of salt and sugar,’ symbolizes the company’s dedication to reducing salt and sugar content in its cereals by 18% and 23% respectively over the past decade.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Wibowo shared, “The concept of an exhibition showcasing artworks made entirely from salt and sugar was intriguing, and I was thrilled to be part of it. Researching the design history of Tower Bridge was captivating, and I aimed to capture the essence of this iconic structure in my sculpture. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to appreciate the intricate details inspired by the real bridge.”
The exhibition, set to open in London and Paris on September 8th and 9th at gallery@oxo, will feature a collection of unique sugar and salt sculptures, sketches, and animations created by talented artists like Quentin Devine, Gala Bell, Bashir Sultani, and Tim Simpson. A spokesperson from Kellogg’s emphasized the company’s commitment to promoting healthier breakfast choices through their improved recipes, emphasizing the reduction of salt and sugar without compromising on taste.
Kellogg’s Reductive Art Exhibition aims to visually represent the brand’s efforts to provide consumers with nutritious options while maintaining the delicious taste they love. By continuously enhancing their cereal recipes and eliminating artificial sweeteners, Kellogg’s strives to meet consumer preferences and promote a healthier lifestyle without compromising on flavor.
