A 12-year-old schoolgirl has been found guilty of child sex offenses after she began downloading explicit pornographic content online. Seeking companionship on the gaming platform Discord, she unwittingly collected over 200 illegal images of minors and shared one such image on Snapchat over a two-year span.
Living in Congleton, Cheshire, the girl was apprehended following a tip-off to the police about the illicit content, leading to a search of her home where authorities discovered disturbing material on her devices. The court heard that she possessed and distributed numerous indecent images, including extreme and disturbing content involving animal abuse and self-harm.
At the age of 15, the girl tearfully confessed to eight charges, including possession and distribution of indecent images. She was sentenced to a one-year referral order and instructed to pay fines totaling £111.
Though not identified due to legal reasons, the girl’s emotional courtroom appearance, accompanied by her parents, highlighted her remorse and distress over the offenses. Her defense counsel revealed her struggles with social interactions and an autism diagnosis, emphasizing her commitment to rehabilitation and compliance with strict parental monitoring of her online activities.
