Juan Pedro Franco, recognized as the most obese man in the world when he weighed 92 stone (590kg), has sadly passed away at the age of 41 due to a kidney infection. His death occurred in a hospital in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes. Medical professionals confirmed that Franco’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his demise as a result of complications associated with a renal infection.

Dr. José Antonio Castaneda revealed that Franco faced systemic complications in the days preceding his passing. In 2017, Guinness World Records acknowledged Franco as the world’s heaviest living individual, garnering international attention. Despite his previous weight challenges that severely limited his mobility, Franco embarked on a journey to improve his health. With the guidance of Dr. Castaneda, he underwent a comprehensive medical program that included a Mediterranean-style diet rich in fruits and vegetables, alongside two bariatric surgeries – a gastric sleeve and a gastric bypass.

Following these treatments, Franco successfully shed a significant amount of weight, enabling him to regain mobility after years of being bedridden. While his weight loss significantly reduced his risk of diabetes and cardiovascular complications, his existing health issues made him vulnerable. Notably, Franco contracted COVID-19 in 2020 but managed to survive despite his high-risk status.

Describing his struggles with obesity, Franco reflected on his journey from despair to newfound independence post-surgery. His doctor commended his courage in sharing his experiences, emphasizing the importance of prolonged and compassionate medical care for individuals battling obesity as a chronic condition.
