A serious car accident on the A19 has left a woman in critical condition, with two men being apprehended in connection to the incident. The woman was driving a Volkswagen T-roc on Friday night near Silverlink Roundabout in North Tyneside when she attempted to pass a stationary vehicle and collided with a Skoda Fabia.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and the Great North Air Ambulance team, responded to the scene. The woman, in her 30s, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where she remains in critical condition.
Subsequently, two men in their 20s and 30s were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Northumbria Police have closed a section of the road for investigation and are urging witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage, to come forward.
The A19 was shut down for over 12 hours in both directions, leading to traffic disruptions on Saturday morning. The southbound lanes were reopened at approximately 11.30am. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed their response to the incident, dispatching multiple ambulances and medical teams to the scene.
