Wimbledon has kicked off with some unexpected events this year. Enthusiastic fans were spotted camping overnight to secure a spot for the opening day of the renowned tennis competition. The weather conditions were favorable at 15 degrees Celsius, providing a pleasant queuing experience.

Save Wimbledon Park activists, dressed as giant tennis balls, gathered outside the venue to protest expansion plans that involve adding courts and seating on a former golf course. Top players, including Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, have ended their media protest after discussions with All England Club officials.

British player Emma Raducanu withdrew from Wimbledon due to a stress fracture in her lower right leg, while Novak Djokovic is set to start his campaign despite fitness concerns. The return of Serena and Venus Williams, who received a wild card for the doubles tournament, is highly anticipated this week.

The Wimbledon experience involves queuing, which is essential for fans aiming to access specific courts or obtain a grounds pass. The queue operates on a first-come, first-served basis, requiring attendees to be registered on the app beforehand.

On the first day, 128 players, an equal number of men and women, will compete in the main draw’s first round. The schedule for today focuses on singles matches as doubles matches commence on Wednesday.

Activists from Save Wimbledon Park are opposing expansion plans that propose constructing 39 new tennis courts and an 8,000-seat stadium on historic land. They argue that it would harm mature trees and the local community, while organizers claim it would enhance biodiversity and boost economic growth.

Preparations for the tournament have escalated, with over 7,000 staff members, including chefs and ball boys/girls, coordinating to ensure a seamless event. Wimbledon, known for its traditions and prestige, attracts a global audience of over 300 million viewers annually.

The All England Club, the venue for Wimbledon, offers luxurious amenities for members, including private dressing rooms and the exclusive Royal Box on Centre Court. The tournament’s stringent dress code and focus on grass courts set it apart as a top Grand Slam event in tennis.
