A school in Wales is honoring the memory of Lilly Jones, a 14-year-old girl who is the focus of a murder inquiry following the discovery of a body earlier this week. Described as having a kind and lively personality, Lilly was a student at Brynmawr Foundation School.
Lilly, who went missing from Blaina in Blaenau Gwent on Saturday, was found near Duffryn Park on Monday. Although formal identification is pending, Gwent Police have notified Lilly’s family. A 14-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder is currently in police custody.
The head teacher of Brynmawr Foundation School expressed deep sorrow over Lilly’s tragic death, emphasizing her significant role in the school community. The school, closed due to severe weather, is providing support to affected students. They extended condolences to Lilly’s family and friends during this challenging period.
Residents of Blaina have been shocked by the incident, leaving flowers and tributes near Duffryn Park in memory of Lilly. Brynmawr Foundation School also paid tribute by placing flowers near the police cordon with a message saying “Always in our hearts.”
Reverend Liane Chalmers of St Peter’s Church, Blaina, welcomed community members to light candles and share condolences for Lilly. A fundraiser has raised over £12,000 to assist with Lilly’s funeral and memorial expenses.
Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas emphasized ongoing efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding Lilly’s death, urging anyone with information to come forward. Gwent Police have involved the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as part of standard protocol for such cases.
