A vehicle blaze has resulted in a significant closure of one of the busiest motorways in the United Kingdom. The M6 in Staffordshire is currently shut down between exits J11 for Shareshill, Cannock, and J10A for the M54, as confirmed by National Highways. The closure of the southbound lane was necessitated by a vehicle catching fire.
The Staffordshire Fire Service was summoned to extinguish the flames while National Highways personnel managed the traffic flow. The Mirror has made inquiries to South West Ambulance and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue for additional details.
National Highways, responsible for the UK’s road network, has advised drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion caused by the incident. Inrix, a traffic monitoring website for British roads, warned of significant delays on the M6 this morning due to the car fire incident.
According to the latest update, the southbound section of the M6 is blocked from J11 A460 (Cannock) to J10A M54 J10A, with all traffic halted around 10 am. National Highways website confirmed the closure of the M6 southbound lane due to a vehicle fire. They reported that lane 3 on the northbound carriageway has reopened, with Staffordshire Fire Service and National Highways Traffic Officers present for traffic control and vehicle recovery operations.
