A tragic incident at a training exercise in California has resulted in the death of a US soldier who was fatally injured when a 27-ton M2 Bradley fighting vehicle ran over him. The soldier, Combat engineer Adrian Bonsey, 29, was part of a large-scale training exercise in the Mojave Desert when the accident occurred during low visibility hours on June 10.

Specialist Bonsey, serving with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart in Georgia, was described as an outstanding soldier dedicated to his mission and country by Maj. Gen. John Lubas, the division commander. The loss of Specialist Bonsey has deeply affected the entire division, and support is being extended to his family, loved ones, and colleagues during this challenging time.

Originally from New York, Specialist Bonsey joined the army in 2023 and had recently been stationed at Fort Stewart for two months. He had prior service at Fort Carson, Colorado, and a deployment to Poland in 2024.

The National Training Center in California’s Mojave Desert was the location of the training exercise, which is a crucial phase preparing army units for potential combat deployments abroad. Bradley fighting vehicles, like the one involved in the incident, are equipped with advanced weaponry and are essential for combat missions.

Army training accidents have seen a significant number of fatalities in recent years, with vehicle-related incidents being a major cause. Investigations into such accidents have pointed out various factors like sleep deprivation and inadequate training as contributing to these tragic events.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing to determine the details surrounding the soldier’s death.
