A suspected unexploded bomb led to the evacuation of a police station in Fareham. The incident prompted the establishment of a large cordon around Fareham Police Station, resulting in the evacuation of the station and nearby buildings. Shoppers at a Tesco store on Quay Street were also asked to leave as a precautionary measure.

The evacuation occurred as preparations were underway for the town’s Christmas light switch-on event scheduled for Saturday night. Fareham Borough Council advised residents to avoid the area for safety reasons.

Hampshire Police released a statement confirming the presence of the unexploded bomb at Fareham Police Station, necessitating the lockdown. The Royal Navy Ordnance Explosive Disposal team responded to the scene to safely remove the device, allowing for the cordon to be lifted.

A police spokesperson disclosed, “A suspected unexploded ordnance was brought into Fareham Police Station on Saturday, November 22, at 1.46 pm. A 100-meter cordon was established, and several premises were evacuated as a precaution. The Royal Navy Ordnance Explosive Disposal team successfully removed the device before the cordon was lifted.”
