Recent weather forecasts indicate that various regions in the UK are expected to face heavy rainfalls in the upcoming week. According to the latest data from WX Charts, Scotland and northern England are likely to experience wintry precipitation on Wednesday due to low pressure intensifying over the North Sea. Snowfall is expected on higher ground, although it is not expected to be widespread or intense.
The weather maps for Wednesday at 12pm and 3pm show that cold air will dominate much of Britain. Additionally, forecasts from the Met Office suggest that rainstorms will impact the country, particularly targeting northern Scotland and the north and northeast of England.
The Met Office’s forecast for Wednesday predicts a mix of sunshine and showers across the UK, with some heavy showers possibly accompanied by hail and thunder, and wintry conditions expected over the Scottish mountains. Brisk and chilly northwesterly winds are also anticipated.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s weather forecast mentioned that rain in the north will gradually clear southward throughout the day, leading to sunny spells with scattered showers in the north and northwest regions. The day is expected to feel chilly, especially due to the brisk northerly breeze.
According to WXCharts.com, snow showers are forecasted to begin in northern Scotland by 6pm on Tuesday, May 12, and then move southeastward during the evening. Wintry outbreaks are expected in eastern Scotland and parts of northern England by midnight, particularly over elevated areas and exposed hillsides. The snowfall, starting on Tuesday, is projected to continue until 12am on Thursday, May 14, spreading from the Grampians to west and east Scotland (Aberdeen, Fort William).
By midnight, locations along the west coast of Scotland and northern England, including Dumfries, Kendal, and Blackpool, could witness snowfall. By Wednesday morning, central and southeast Scotland, northern England (Manchester, York, Hull), and north Wales are likely to see some snowfall.
The remainder of Wednesday is expected to bring scattered showers to central and northern Scotland, as well as northwest England. Rainfall is expected to cover much of the UK, with the heaviest downpours anticipated in the afternoon.
This weather pattern is a stark contrast to the recent sunny and warm conditions experienced across most of the UK. On Monday, the Met Office recorded temperatures of 16.1°C in Exeter, Devon, and more than 12 hours of sunshine in Prestwick, South Ayrshire.
Similar conditions were reported elsewhere, with temperatures reaching 15.9°C in Killowen, County Down, and over nine hours of sunshine in Aldergrove, County Antrim.
