Donald Trump is facing embarrassment from Iran amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with potential significant repercussions for the US President, according to a foreign policy expert. Trump claimed to have halted a planned US attack on Iran to engage in negotiations. Initially aiming to overthrow Tehran’s government and dismantle its military, Trump’s focus has shifted to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

However, Trump’s flawed military strategies have led to what security and defense analyst Professor Anthony Glees describes as a “strategic defeat.” Iran’s actions, such as blocking the crucial Strait of Hormuz oil route, have not only spiked oil prices but have also showcased to China that attempts to reopen the route would be challenging.

Glees highlighted the impact on Trump, stating that the recent events have exposed the limitations of American power to Iran and China’s President, Xi Jinping. The conflict in Iran has garnered widespread disapproval in the US and globally, with a significant portion of American voters viewing Trump’s decision to engage in war as wrong.

As a result of the conflict, Trump’s approval ratings have plummeted, reaching a low of 37%. Amidst dwindling support, Trump indicated via TruthSocial that negotiations were ongoing with Middle Eastern leaders to avoid military action against Iran. The financial cost of the conflict, estimated at $29 billion, has strained the US economy at a time when citizens are facing increased expenses.

Glees pointed out Trump’s concessions to political adversaries in a bid to find a resolution, including reportedly offering to collaborate with China and Russia to dissolve the International Criminal Court. Despite Trump’s claims of an impending deal, the conflict persists, with Glees suggesting that a conclusive resolution would likely require a ground presence, a move that many Americans oppose.

The expert also criticized Trump’s communication style, noting that his aggressive rhetoric and inconsistent announcements have raised doubts. Glees emphasized that Iran perceives Trump as weak and manipulable, exploiting his blunders in dealing with the conflict.
