President Trump has decided to halt all trade dealings with Spain. This directive was given during his address to the media at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, where he instructed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to sever all trade relations with the European nation.
Trump expressed his strong disapproval, stating that Spain is not a reliable NATO partner due to its lack of contribution and financial support. He emphasized his decision to cut off all trade ties with Spain, including any official visits, without delay.
In a related development, Trump also announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran following recent military actions in the Middle East. He criticized Iran as untrustworthy and expressed his reluctance to engage in further negotiations with them.
Despite Trump’s remarks about Spain, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte affirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to the alliance. Rutte highlighted the importance of NATO for the security interests of the United States and urged European allies to increase their defense spending to align with the US.
Trump indicated his intention to address his concerns regarding NATO at the upcoming summit and criticized the alliance’s response during the Middle East conflict. He specifically mentioned the UK’s initial refusal to grant permission to use British bases for military operations as a point of contention.
In addition, Trump raised the issue of Greenland’s status, suggesting that the territory should be part of the United States, despite it belonging to Denmark, a NATO ally. He expressed frustration over what he perceived as inadequate support from NATO allies during past conflicts and highlighted his grievances with the UK’s actions during the Middle East crisis.
