Trump Considers Ending Iran War Amid Rising Costs

US President Donald Trump has hinted that the war in Iran and the surrounding regions might be coming to an end soon, as he seeks a way out. The conflict has incurred enormous costs for America and Israel in terms of missiles, troop movements, warplanes, and maintaining the US fleet in the Arabian Sea, yet the Iranian regime remains resilient.

If Trump decides to end the war now in hopes of a positive market response, it appears that Iran’s strategy of outlasting the coalition and putting pressure on the Gulf States to engage in a costly, prolonged conflict has been effective. While Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, its leadership has grown more vengeful and uncompromising.

Motjaba Khamenei, 56, has taken over from his deceased father, Ayatollah Khamenei, and has strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, despite his personal losses. Trump’s inconsistent messaging has highlighted his lack of competence and understanding of the war he initiated.

Although Trump has issued threats of ‘death, fire, and fury’ if Iran obstructs oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has already taken such actions. Trump has also warned of harsher retaliation if hostilities resume, suggesting a potential cycle of prolonged attacks.

Israel has also incurred significant expenses in missile strikes against Iran but has not succeeded in instigating regime change. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expresses a desire for the Iranian people to overthrow tyranny but acknowledges the challenges without ground troops for sustained combat.

Despite severe damage to Iran’s navy, air force, and ballistic missile program, the war’s objectives have not been fully achieved. Ongoing attacks on IRGC facilities and missile sites suggest that the conflict is far from over, with Trump considering an exit strategy amid mounting pressure.

As the war enters its twelfth day, Trump’s intentions to disengage signal a potential prolongation or resumption of hostilities in the future. The war, initially meant to achieve specific goals, may evolve into an indefinite conflict with intermittent escalations.
