A man in his 40s named Tommy Connors tragically passed away in Ireland in a weather-related incident. Mr. Connors, a resident of Letterkenny in County Donegal, died after falling from a shed roof. Authorities are treating the incident as weather-related, and Mr. Connors’ body has been taken to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The local police, Garda Síochána, are conducting investigations, and the results of the post-mortem examination will guide their further actions. A file will be prepared for the coroner as tributes pour in for Mr. Connors, a well-known figure in the Letterkenny area.
The incident occurred during a Status Red weather warning on Friday afternoon, with a high number of power outages reported across Ireland. The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and NIE Networks confirmed that thousands of properties were without power, particularly in counties Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo.
ESB crews were deployed to address various incidents, including a fallen ash tree causing power line damage in Balbriggan, Co Dublin. Despite challenges posed by the storm, restoration efforts were ongoing, with officials estimating that power could be fully restored by early next week.
Storm Amy brought strong winds, with gusts reaching 148kmh and sustained winds of 94kmh in exposed coastal regions. Wind warnings were issued and later expired for different counties, with authorities urging caution during the storm recovery phase.
In Northern Ireland, agencies are working to restore essential services following the storm. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) emphasized the need for caution as operations to recover from Storm Amy intensify.
