A tragic incident occurred in Zante, Greece, where a pit bull attacked and fatally injured a two-year-old boy who had wandered into a room where the dog was chained. The child, who was with his father and British mother after a shopping trip, was bitten on the face and head by the dog. Despite being rushed to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, medical efforts to save his life were unsuccessful. The boy’s mother is receiving treatment for shock in the aftermath of the distressing event.
Local media reported that the parents of the child have been taken into custody and charged with manslaughter. It was revealed that the dog, originally a stray, had been taken in by the family approximately two months prior to the incident.
According to Michalis Giannakos, the head of the national public hospital workers’ union, the family had chosen to shelter the stray dog. He mentioned that the mother is currently too traumatized to discuss the events, while the father is cooperating with the police as part of standard procedures.
