CCTV footage has captured a tragic incident where a tourist lost her life after being hit by a statue thrown from a balcony while walking with her boyfriend. The victim, Chiara Jaconis, aged 30, was enjoying her birthday trip to Naples, Italy, with her partner when a 4.4lbs onyx statue was hurled at her from a third-floor balcony by a 13-year-old boy. The impact of the statue caused fatal injuries to Chiara as she walked down a serene street in Naples.

A distressing video clip shows the moment Chiara was struck and fell to the ground, motionless, leaving her boyfriend in shock. Moments later, emergency services arrived at the scene, and Chiara was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her severe head injuries two days later.

Chiara, an Italian national working for the fashion brand Prada in Paris, was ahead of her boyfriend in Naples’ Spanish Quarters when the tragic incident occurred. The parents of the teenager responsible for throwing the statue are now facing charges of negligent manslaughter, asserting their son’s innocence in the tragic event on September 15, 2024.

Although the teenager was acquitted by a juvenile court due to being under 14 years old, prosecutors argue that Chiara’s death could have been prevented if the parents had monitored their child more closely. It has been reported that the teenager had engaged in risky behavior in the past, but his parents deny any involvement or ownership of the statue used in the fatal incident.

In a surprising turn of events, the parents have contested the court’s decision to clear their son’s name based on his age, insisting that he should be acquitted based on the facts of the case. This incident has sparked widespread debate in Italy regarding parental accountability in densely populated areas, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 26.
