Tory defector Robert Jenrick faced disruptions during his appearance in his hometown since joining Reform. A man was escorted out of the event in Newark after vocally expressing displeasure towards the MP on stage, leading to a commotion as Reform supporters jeered.
A large crowd of party backers gathered at the impromptu rally in Mr. Jenrick’s constituency following his switch from his previous party. When confronted by the agitated protester, Jenrick responded calmly, saying, “Good to see you my friend.”
The protester proceeded to mention Tory MP David Davis and referenced Lucy Letby, though the exact intent behind the outburst remains unclear. The incident cast a shadow on Reform’s efforts to embrace the controversial ex-Conservative minister amidst mounting discontent over Jenrick’s move.
Jenrick made his transition to Reform public last Thursday after being dismissed by Kemi Badenoch for alleged scheming. Addressing the party supporters, Jenrick acknowledged his earlier-than-anticipated shift to Reform, emphasizing his unwavering conviction in the decision.
Taking a swipe at his former party mates, whom he professed loyalty to just a week prior, Jenrick declared, “In aligning with Reform, I pledge to never again support the unjustifiable. I parted ways with the Conservatives not only due to their inability to address Britain’s issues – trust me on this – but also because Reform has the solutions.”
