English actress Lucy Davis, known for her role in The Office, shared on Tuesday that she has been undergoing treatment for Stage 4 breast cancer, which has advanced to her bones over the past 18 months. Despite the gravity of her condition, the 53-year-old actress expressed her acceptance and lack of fear about the future. In an Instagram post, she conveyed her determination to live out the remaining time in a positive and enjoyable manner.
Davis mentioned that chemotherapy is now ineffective as the cancer has spread to various parts of her body, including her spine, right hip, and ribs. In a poignant Instagram video, she recited the poem “Ringing Out” by Irve Le Moyne before participating in a tradition where cancer patients ring a bell upon completing their treatment.
Born in Solihull, England in 1973, Davis rose to fame for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the popular BBC series The Office from 2001 to 2003. Apart from her notable performances in films like Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Wonder Woman (2017), she has been a vocal advocate for animal rights through her support for PETA.
Despite experiencing frequent pain and using a wheelchair at times, Davis emphasized the importance of humor in her life. She humorously requested her loved ones to mock her as much as possible.
