The latest forecast from the Met Office suggests a rather gloomy week ahead, with temperatures not anticipated to reach 20C anywhere in the country from Monday to Friday. However, according to the ECMWF weather model, temperatures could climb next week during a warm four-day period starting on May 21. Highs of 23C may be reached in the south-east of England, with temperatures potentially hitting 20C in central England.
On May 22, temperatures could soar to 24C in the south-east, including London, while other southern regions could see highs of 22C, and central England might reach 21C. The following day, May 23, is predicted to bring temperatures of 23C in southern England and 21C in the Midlands. Although Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to be slightly cooler than England during this period, certain areas of Wales near the English border may experience temperatures around 20C.
Looking ahead to May 24, the ECMWF model suggests widespread heat with highs of 22C and 23C possible across a large part of England, from the south coast up to Yorkshire. The forecast indicates that 35 counties in England and Wales could witness temperatures of 20C or higher over the four-day period. The Met Office anticipates a turn to “rather warm” temperatures towards the end of the month, following a period of “cooler than average” conditions.
According to the Met Office’s forecast for May 16 to May 25, changeable and unsettled weather is expected, with rain or showers likely, interspersed with some drier intervals. Initially cooler temperatures are expected, but a trend towards warmer conditions is projected towards the end of the period, especially in the southern regions.
