Heartfelt condolences have been shared for a beloved student who tragically lost his life after entering the River Wye during a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Umar Dumbuya, 18, passed away while participating in the expedition in Powys, Wales. Authorities were alerted to the incident when a male individual went into the water and did not resurface.
Following the teenager’s untimely death, his college, Leyton Sixth Form, initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to provide assistance to his family. Describing Umar as kind-hearted and impactful, college staff expressed deep sorrow over his sudden demise, emphasizing the significant void left by his passing.
In a statement released by Dyfed-Powys Police, Umar’s family expressed their profound grief, describing him as a loving individual who enjoyed activities like basketball, gym sessions, and spending quality time with loved ones. They requested privacy as they navigate through this difficult period of mourning.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award also paid tribute to Umar, recognizing him as an outstanding individual who positively influenced those around him. Highlighting his dedication, kindness, and support for the DofE program, the organization extended condolences to Umar’s family, friends, and college community.
