A teenager and a woman were tragically shot and killed following a dispute at a soccer game in the United States. The alleged 18-year-old suspect was turned away from the match in Michigan on Tuesday, May 5, near Southwest Elementary School.
During the incident, a 15-year-old boy and a woman who came to his aid were shot in front of other children, according to the police. Interim police chief in Grand Rapids, Joe Trigg, expressed concern over the impact on the young witnesses.
The altercation began when the 18-year-old was denied entry to the game while children were playing soccer. The situation escalated into a verbal confrontation, leading to the suspect brandishing a firearm and shooting the juvenile victim. The woman who intervened on behalf of the victim was also targeted and shot.
After the shooting, the suspect fled but was later apprehended by the authorities. The Grand Rapids school district decided to close two schools on Wednesday, May 6, to allow the community time to come to terms with the tragic events.
