Chaos erupted on the premises of a college today when a physical altercation broke out among students. This evening, it was disclosed that nine teenagers were apprehended following the scuffle, prompting the school to implement a one-hour “lockdown.” The altercation is believed to have originated from a confrontation between two students at Stockport College on Thursday. An employee was observed rushing to assist a student who was knocked down, while the altercation persisted in the vicinity.
Security personnel in high-visibility jackets and other staff members encountered difficulty in intervening as additional students breached barriers to join the altercation. Amidst a group of boys exchanging blows and kicks, a student was heard repeatedly exclaiming “oh my god,” as the chaos spilled from inside the college onto a public walkway.
One distressed parent recounted how her 15-year-old son was left in a state of shock after witnessing the altercation. The confrontation began with a clash between two boys which rapidly escalated, according to the mother as reported by Manchester Evening News.
“It’s quite alarming,” she remarked. “Initially, it was a scuffle between two boys which then drew in their peers.” Another individual informed the M.E.N, “It commenced with a scuffle between two boys, and then it spiraled into a major issue.”
Administrators at Stockport College affirmed that a “lockdown protocol” was activated to ensure the safety of both staff and students. In a statement, the college stated, “All safety measures and escalation protocols were adhered to in response to today’s incident.”
“Our lockdown protocol was promptly enforced to effectively manage the situation and safeguard the well-being of every student. The students’ welfare remains our utmost concern. Normal academic activities resumed within the hour.”
A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police remarked, “Approximately at 11:50 am today (27 November), authorities were summoned to address a group of males engaged in a physical altercation at a college on Wellington Road South, Stockport. Law enforcement promptly responded to the scene, and nine individuals aged between 16 and 18 were arrested on charges of affray.”
“No weapons were involved in the incident, and fortunately, no severe injuries have been reported. The nine individuals remain in custody for interrogation, and local law enforcement are collaborating with partners to offer support and aid.”
Carmen Gonzalez-Eslava, principal of the Trafford and Stockport College Group, conveyed in a statement, “We have addressed an incident at Stockport College today involving a very limited number of students.”
“The situation was managed swiftly and effectively, with all necessary procedures followed to ensure the safety and well-being of each student. Their welfare remains our top priority. Regular classes are ongoing, and the campus is operating normally.”
