“Stabbing Attack at Manchester Synagogue: Suspect Shot by Police”

Police responded to a stabbing incident at a synagogue in Manchester, where the suspected attacker was shot by officers. The Heaton Park synagogue was cordoned off, and a major incident was declared with the deployment of officers and paramedics. The attack occurred in Crumpsall on Middleton Road, an area with a significant Jewish community.

Mayor Andy Burnham stated that individuals had gathered for a Yom Kippur service outside the Heaton Park Synagogue. The incident was classified as Operation PLATO by the Greater Manchester Police, which is the UK’s counter-terrorism plan for rapid responses to terrorist attacks. The offender is believed to be deceased according to Mayor Burnham.

The attack, which coincided with the Yom Kippur festival, prompted a swift response from law enforcement. Greater Manchester Police reported that shots were fired at the scene, injuring the suspected attacker. Several individuals were wounded in the incident, with emergency services on site providing medical assistance.

Mayor Burnham assured the public that the immediate threat had subsided following the incident in Crumpsall. The North West Ambulance Service dispatched resources to the location to attend to those injured. The suspected attacker was apprehended by armed police outside the Heaton Park synagogue.

The incident on Middleton Road at the Heaton Park synagogue has raised concerns and prompted heightened security measures in the area.
