A man who identified himself as a divine being and resorted to extreme self-harm to avoid incarceration has been convicted of murder. Robert Brandon Keller, 32, was found guilty of the murder of Bruce William Dupree, 43, in connection with a carjacking incident in October 2024. During his court appearance, Keller proclaimed, “I am a divine being.”
Following his arrest, Keller mutilated himself by gouging out his own eyes and part of his tongue. However, he later admitted to jail staff that he did so as a desperate attempt to avoid legal consequences and secure placement in a medical facility. He received a life sentence on July 2.
The tragic events unfolded when Keller, under the influence of drugs, attacked Dupree, slashing his throat and abandoning him near Interstate 16 in Bulloch County, Georgia. A passerby discovered Dupree pleading for help and alerted the authorities. Despite medical efforts, Dupree succumbed to his injuries.
Keller was apprehended at a local inn and subsequently faced justice. Judge Matthew Hube condemned Keller’s actions, describing him as a menace who preyed on those offering assistance, leaving destruction in his path.
Keller was ultimately sentenced to two consecutive life terms and an additional 25 years. Acting Bulloch County District Attorney Jillian Gibson expressed gratitude for removing a dangerous individual from the community.
In a poignant statement to the court, Dupree’s niece, Mandy Moore, emphasized the irreplaceable loss her family experienced due to Keller’s heinous actions. She acknowledged the resolution provided by the justice system and hoped that no other family would endure similar suffering at the hands of a criminal.
