A restaurant owner expressed anger after two customers left without paying their £115 bill, calling the incident “extremely disappointing.” The couple arrived at El Puerto in Penarth, south Wales, in an upscale car, enjoyed a meal and drinks, then departed without settling the tab, as captured by CCTV footage.
The restaurant team revealed that the issue remains unresolved, sharing the customers’ detailed food receipt which included various items totaling £115.60. Tanny Martinez, the business owner, emphasized the financial challenges faced by the hospitality industry and how such incidents exacerbate the situation.
Martinez lamented that the hard work put into creating exceptional customer experiences was not respected in this case. The impact of such incidents goes beyond financial loss, affecting team morale and well-being. Despite these challenges, Martinez expressed gratitude for the community’s support following the incident.
According to Tanny’s marketing team, the customers made a quick exit when they realized staff were not watching, evading attempts to address the situation. The matter has been reported to South Wales Police, who are investigating the incident as a theft from The Custom House in Penarth.
A message posted by the restaurant on their Facebook page urged the customers to resolve the issue directly. South Wales Police requested anyone with relevant information to come forward, quoting a specific case number.
