Prince Louis is commemorating his eighth birthday today, and in keeping with tradition, the Palace has released a new portrait of the young prince. This latest image, captured during a family trip to Cornwall earlier this month, was shared by his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Renowned royal photographer Matt Porteous took the photograph, which depicts Louis happily leaning with folded arms on a boat against a picturesque sea backdrop. Unlike previous birthday portraits, this one was not taken by Princess Kate.
Until Louis turned five in 2023, the Duchess of Cambridge personally photographed her son’s birthday portraits, featuring alongside Louis in the pictures taken by photographer Millie Pilkington. For his sixth birthday, Kate once again showcased her photography skills, while photographer Josh Shinner took over for his seventh birthday the following year.
In previous years, Prince Louis garnered a strong following among royal enthusiasts for his playful demeanor during rare public appearances. However, as he turns eight, a royal expert suggests that the young prince is beginning to display more composed behavior in public as he matures.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond remarked that William and Kate might experience a touch of nostalgia as their youngest child grows up, stating, “The baby stage has gone once and for all.” During a recent Easter Sunday appearance with his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Louis was praised for his well-behaved demeanor, indicating a growing awareness of his public image.
Despite these changes, the royal expert anticipates that Louis will make more appearances at royal events as he gets older, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge prioritizing their children’s privacy. Jennie emphasized the couple’s commitment to providing a normal and private upbringing for their children, calling them “great kids” and a testament to their dedicated parents.
As Prince Louis celebrates his 8th birthday, let’s revisit the official portraits released by the Palace in previous years to commemorate this special occasion.
