Detectives are seeking assistance in locating the mother of a newborn infant discovered deceased in a warehouse in the Black Country.
The deceased baby, believed to be a girl, was found in a refuse pile at an industrial location in Rowley Regis early on Thursday.
Authorities from West Midlands Police revealed that the waste, potentially transported unknowingly by a private waste management company, was located at a site on Station Road the day before.
The waste operator operates in various regions, including West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Mercia, with authorities clarifying that there is no direct connection between the business and the infant’s demise.
Police are conducting thorough investigations, including forensic evaluations, to identify the baby and determine the cause of death.
In their efforts, officers are urgently trying to locate the mother of the infant, expressing concerns for her well-being and potential need for medical or care assistance.
The police emphasized the importance of the community’s help, encouraging anyone who may have noticed someone exhibiting unusual behavior recently to come forward with information.
Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake stated, “Our primary focus is on locating the mother who may be in distress and requires immediate assistance, regardless of the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
Authorities are utilizing CCTV footage and liaising with hospitals in their search, but are also appealing for the mother or anyone with relevant information to come forward for assistance.
Individuals who can aid in identifying the mother are urged to provide information through the designated Major Incident Public Portal set up by the police.
