Police have issued a dispersal order in response to a significant outbreak of disorder involving over 100 youths engaging in fighting and launching fireworks.
The disturbance began when a group of men convened around 5pm on Thursday, leading to a chaotic situation as the confrontation escalated. Authorities are currently investigating to identify the individuals involved, taking proactive measures to prevent a recurrence of the incident tonight.
To deter any further disorder, officers have established a patrol strategy for the next three days. Inspector Kat Murray, part of the Oldham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, affirmed the enforcement in light of the events on Thursday.
A dispersal order empowers law enforcement to instruct individuals to vacate a specific area and stay away for a designated period, typically up to 48 hours. This measure is utilized to tackle antisocial behavior, crime, harassment, or intimidation, offering relief to the community by dispersing groups or halting problematic behavior before it escalates.
“The disruptive events last night were distressing for our Oldham residents, and we understand the disruptive impact of antisocial behavior on people’s lives,” noted Inspector Murray. “This proactive patrol plan aims to prevent any further incidents of antisocial behavior in the area and provide reassurance to the community.”
Officers will be actively patrolling the vicinity to enforce the order and engage with the public. For those experiencing issues related to antisocial behavior, individuals are encouraged to contact their local team for guidance and support on resolving the concerns.
