A daring individual has sparked a six-hour standoff with law enforcement by scaling a 460-foot tall bridge pillar to create graffiti, call for tax reductions, and request a sandwich. The unidentified artist ascended the famous Bolte Bridge in Melbourne, Australia, to add another mural featuring the city’s renowned Pam the Bird tag to the urban landscape.
Despite police efforts, the mystery vandal has chosen to remain perched atop the bridge pillar, causing traffic disruptions on the Bolte Bridge and M1 motorway. He has outlined a series of unusual demands before considering descending, sharing them through a social media account associated with Pam the Bird.
Initially, the individual demanded lower taxes as a prerequisite for his descent and also asked for a blanket to combat the cold winter conditions at the elevated height of 460 feet. The city of Melbourne, situated on Australia’s southeastern coast, experiences cooler temperatures than commonly perceived, with the mercury dropping to three degrees this morning, likely even colder at the height where the artist is positioned.
Wearing all-black attire and a mask, the mysterious figure filmed himself overlooking emergency vehicles and the roadway, insisting on tax relief. Refusing to come down until his demands are met, he expressed frustration over tax payments in a social media recording. When questioned about the specific taxes he referred to, the individual simply stated, “All of them.”
Adding a peculiar twist to the situation, the individual later demanded a peanut butter and jam sandwich, threatening not to descend without this snack. Despite briefly descending to interact with onlookers, the artist returned to his high vantage point atop the pillar.
In a subsequent update, the individual announced intentions to come down peaceably at noon, citing the need to wait for the tide to recede. The artist’s perch stands at a height of 460 feet above sea level, atop one of the Bolte Bridge’s gateway pillars.
Although the method used to reach the top of the pillar remains unknown, footage from the scene captured the individual abseiling down to carry out the graffiti work. The Pam the Bird tag, a recurring symbol in Melbourne since 2023, has appeared on several prominent landmarks in the city, including Flinders Street Station and the ‘International Gateway’ structure along the M1 highway.
As of now, the individual continues to occupy the top of the bridge, with authorities monitoring the situation closely.
