A mother has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to causing the death of her two-year-old daughter, who was discovered in a pond. Annabel Mackey was reported missing from her residence in Bordon, Hampshire, on September 10, 2023. She was located shortly thereafter at Kingsley Pond and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Annabel passed away the next day.
Alice Mackey, aged 42 and the mother of Annabel, acknowledged her guilt in the manslaughter case. Although she denied a murder charge, the prosecution accepted her plea of diminished responsibility based on assessments from two psychiatrists regarding her mental state at the time of the incident.
Following Annabel’s untimely demise, her father expressed his grief, describing her as a delightful and joyful child with a kind and loving demeanor. He fondly remembered her love for stories, dogs, and her favorite doll, as well as her penchant for singing and sweets. He emphasized Annabel’s positive impact on their lives and encouraged others to honor her memory by spreading kindness and positivity to others.
