Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has introduced his favorite color through a promotional campaign for the inaugural Ultimate Championship. The two-time Olympic gold medalist launched his track “Gold” in collaboration with World Athletics. This event, set to take place in Budapest from September 11 to 13, features top athletes from the Olympics, world championships, and Diamond League competing over three evening sessions, with individual event winners earning $150,000 each.
Duplantis, 26, who holds the world record, has been involved in music for some years and previously released his debut single, “Bop,” in 2025. Expressing his aspirations, Duplantis revealed his dream of winning a Grammy. The track “Gold,” co-written by Duplantis with Carl Silvergran and Oscar Chase, and produced by Chase, conveys a message of representing something greater than oneself, echoing the unity brought by music and sports.
Accompanied by a music video shot in Budapest, the song features archival footage of Duplantis as a young athlete. The athlete from Louisiana shared his music serves as a form of therapy, offering him a break from the intensity of sports. “Gold” will be integrated into the Ultimate Championship broadcast and live-event experience, bridging fans in the stadium with a global audience.
Scheduled to perform “Gold” live at the event’s conclusion, Duplantis aims to captivate audiences with his musical talent. World Athletics President Sebastian Coe emphasized that the Ultimate Championship aims to highlight athletes’ skills and interests beyond the track, praising Duplantis as a prominent figure in the sport. This championship will occur every two years, offering a platform for athletes to showcase their talents in a unique setting.
