A woman from the United Kingdom who had been missing was discovered deceased in southern Spain after an extensive search effort. The search was initiated for Geraldine Ann, 73 years old, who disappeared from her residence in Chirivel, near Granada, on September 17.
Allegedly, she left her home late at night wearing pajamas and flip-flops to feed some cats following an argument with her husband, who reported her missing the next day. A body was found concealed under vegetation next to a motorway. Although authorities are awaiting the outcome of definitive DNA tests, indications suggest that the deceased individual is Geraldine.
The Chirivel Town Hall released a statement expressing deep sorrow, stating, “We profoundly regret to have to inform you that a body has been found by the A-92 motorway thought be that of our neighbour Geraldine, pending official confirmation from the authorities.”
An extensive search operation was launched for the missing British woman, who resided in Contador, a hamlet in the Chirivel district, involving drones, officials, and volunteers.
Jose Torregrosa Mota, the mayor of Chirivel, mentioned during her disappearance that she was suffering from senile dementia and had left home after a minor disagreement with her husband. He extended his gratitude to the Civil Guard and local police from Chirivel and Cullar, where Geraldine’s body was discovered, just over a mile away from her residence. Search efforts included the deployment of sniffer dogs and a specialized mountain rescue unit called GREIM.
Volunteers, including British expatriates, also participated in the search for the missing individual after her disappearance garnered attention on social media and through a Spanish missing persons association named SOS Desaparecidos.
Despite the advanced control room ceasing operations after a month of extensive searching, the municipality’s appeal urged everyone, especially farmers and sports enthusiasts, to remain vigilant.
This development follows the discovery of the body of a British man who had been missing for nearly a month on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Marc Tulloch Hewson, 63, originally from Wantage, Oxfordshire, was last seen around September 20 in Torrevieja south of Alicante. Hewson had left his residence in Orihuela Costa two days before his disappearance and was later taken to Torrevieja Hospital in an ambulance. He vanished around 2 am on September 19 after being discharged.
A body recovered from the water at the fishing port of Aguilas in Murcia on Wednesday, October 15, was believed to be that of Marc Tulloch Hewson.
