An aspiring contestant from Miss Universe has tragically been discovered deceased in her residence.
Wualys Fuentes Aquino was found lifeless by concerned family members who had not been in contact with her for several days. Upon visiting her apartment, they made the grim find and promptly alerted the authorities on Monday.
Law enforcement cordoned off the area while forensic teams gathered evidence at her dwelling in the Altos del Trapiche neighborhood in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The authorities took the model’s body for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of her passing, which is currently undetermined. Officials have not excluded the possibility of foul play or natural factors as investigations proceed.
Recently, the young model and student secured the runner-up position in the Miss Universe Tegucigalpa 2026 pageant. She came in second place behind the eventual winner, Luciana Núñez.
Event organizers lauded her talent, charm, and supportive demeanor towards fellow contestants.
Following her participation in the contest, she shared on Instagram: “Today I gratefully celebrate being named first runner-up in Miss Universe Tegucigalpa. More than just a title, I leave with the certainty of having given my best every step of the way. Thank you to those who recognize the effort, dedication, and essence that come before any result.”
In a post the day after the event, she expressed: “The 14-year-old girl who faced bullying due to her body type healed and shone yesterday. It’s challenging to stand on a stage in front of so many people, but my confidence and potential will propel me forward. Today, I can confidently say that I love myself just the way I am, understanding that God created me in his image and likeness.”
Besides modeling, Wualys pursued studies in International Marketing and Social Work at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).
She was hailed as a rising star in her native land and frequently shared her passion for travel on social platforms. The Miss Universe Tegucigalpa organization described her as supportive, kind, and dedicated.
Friends fondly remembered the vibrant and charismatic young woman with ambitious aspirations.
One individual wrote: “Today, we bid farewell to a queen who left an indelible imprint on our hearts. Beyond the crowns and stages, she will always be remembered for her radiance, kindness, and inspiration to those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
