In a heartwarming turn of events, a young boy named Toma-Alexandru Zerestea, also known as Alex, was found safe and sound after being missing for nearly three days in a forest known to be home to bears. The incident occurred in the Rusc area near Sebișu de Jos, Romania, where Alex disappeared while his father was occupied repairing an electric fence.
Despite a massive search effort involving numerous rescue teams equipped with advanced tools such as search dogs, drones, and thermal imaging equipment, the boy remained elusive in the rugged terrain. The region’s reputation for large carnivores, combined with harsh weather conditions, added to the urgency of the situation.
Fortunately, on Wednesday afternoon, a Black Hawk helicopter from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ General Inspectorate of Aviation located Alex approximately 1.5 miles from his last known location. A skilled search-and-rescue operator, Mihail Soare, was swiftly deployed to reach the child, who was found conscious and seeking shelter amidst the trees.
Soare ensured the boy’s safety and comfort until ground teams could reach them. Despite the exhaustion and exposure to the elements, Alex was in stable condition with no serious injuries when he was taken to the Sibiu Clinical Paediatric Hospital. His relieved father expressed immense joy upon their reunion.
Authorities hailed the successful outcome as a miraculous one, considering the inherent dangers of the Carpathian forest where the incident occurred. While police have initiated a standard inquiry into the events leading to Alex’s disappearance, initial assessments suggest that the boy simply wandered off on his own accord.
