The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is set to impact holiday costs, according to travel experts. The Foreign Office has issued travel advisories for several Middle Eastern countries, leading to flight cancellations. As a result, jet fuel prices have surged in north-west Europe. Experts suggest that these increased costs may soon affect travel to other destinations as well.

Independent travel analyst Jane Hawkes explained that the conflict’s repercussions are not limited to the Middle East. Rising oil prices have resulted in higher operating costs for airlines, leading to increased flight prices. Additionally, safety concerns may prompt travelers to seek out more stable destinations, driving up prices in those areas.

Andrea Platania from Transfeero highlighted that rerouting flights from the Middle East could further elevate travel costs. Longer flight routes consume more fuel, and with jet fuel prices on the rise, airlines are likely to pass on these expenses to passengers through higher ticket prices. This increase in transportation costs may also impact hotel rates, car rentals, and excursion prices due to heightened demand.

Notably, petrol prices have seen a recent uptick in the UK, with diesel prices also on the rise. The potential shift in traveler behavior towards safer destinations could lead to increased pricing for accommodations and travel packages in the near term. This surge in demand for non-conflict zones, coupled with limited flight availability, may result in localized price hikes.

Richard Young, CEO of selfcatering.co.uk, noted that as global uncertainty and fuel prices escalate, travelers may opt for staycations over foreign trips. During such volatile periods, self-catering breaks tend to gain popularity for offering families a secure and flexible getaway experience. Locations like Yorkshire Dales, Norfolk, Northumberland, Devon, Cotswolds, Lake District, and Highland hotspots are expected to witness increased interest as travelers seek alternatives to traditional holiday destinations.
