Melania Trump seemed to discreetly avoid showing US President Donald Trump’s hand after a bruise was noticed earlier today.
The President and the First Lady were observed strolling hand in hand as they departed Air Force One shortly after landing in the UK this evening. Trump’s bruised hand was not visible when he greeted UK officials on the tarmac before they headed to the helicopter, Marine One, with Melania tightly holding his hand.
RAF personnel from The King’s Colour Squadron stood in formation as Trump disembarked Air Force One at Stansted Airport, creating an honor guard. US security service members were also present at the airport conducting searches, utilizing security wands to scan individuals.
Trump and Melania are set to travel to the US ambassador’s residence in central London from Stansted. The President arrived in the UK for a second state visit where he will engage with the Royal Family and the Starmers.
The bruising on Trump’s hand has sparked significant conversations recently after a series of public appearances and absences raised concerns about his health. Trump, inaugurated as the oldest man to take office at 78, has now turned 79.
The marks on his hand, resembling bruises, have been evident on multiple occasions. The White House suggested the marks could be attributed to “frequent handshaking” and his use of aspirin, which serves various purposes including as a blood-thinning agent.
Trump’s physician, Sean Barbarella, stated: “This is in line with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and aspirin use, part of a standard cardiovascular preventive regimen.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt remarked: “This is a known and harmless side effect of aspirin therapy. The President’s excellent health is evident daily.”
Last month, the White House disclosed the President’s diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition leading to inadequate blood circulation in specific body parts, including the limbs. The disorder, commonly affecting individuals over 70, explains the President’s recent swollen ankles, as per the White House.
Just before boarding Air Force One, Trump lauded King Charles as a “friend,” praising him as an “elegant gentleman” who represents the country well.
Since 1952, only three US Presidents have made state visits, namely George W. Bush in 2003, Barack Obama in 2009, and Trump in 2019.
