A top aide to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has resigned from their position after less than a year. Meredith Maines, who served as the couple’s chief communications officer, has stepped down after 10 months, as reported by US outlet People. This comes after the Sussexes have seen a turnover of 10 aides since transitioning out of their royal roles and relocating to California over five years ago, as previously noted by the Mirror.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed Maines’ departure, stating, “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have completed their work with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The couple appreciates their contributions and wishes them success.” Maines also released a statement expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work with Prince Harry and Meghan, sharing her plans to pursue a new opportunity in 2026, while acknowledging the positive impact the couple and their team are making in the world.
Notably, Emily Robinson, who was appointed as Harry and Meghan’s director of communications in June, also resigned three months later. Last year, Ashley Hansen, the Sussexes’ global press secretary, left her position after two years to establish her own consultancy. Additionally, earlier in the same year, communication staff members, including Charlie Gipson in the UK and Kyle Boulia in California, also departed from their roles.
Maines collaborated with Method Communications, an external firm supporting Meghan and Harry’s communication efforts, and was primarily responsible for managing the duchess’ public relations activities. Liam Maguire, the Sussexes’ director of communications for the UK and Europe, who continues in his role, has focused on overseeing Prince Harry’s communications.
Upon her appointment, Maines expressed her enthusiasm for working with the couple, highlighting her eagerness to share their narrative as entrepreneurs, builders, and philanthropists, while managing all communications related to the couple and their ventures.
