Authorities responding to a report of a suspicious object in a front yard in Fallowfield have uncovered a second suspicious item located just a few feet away within a residence.
The discovery of the second item occurred outside a property on Rostherne Avenue on Sunday around 2:45 pm, according to the Greater Manchester Police. No individuals have been detained, and investigations are currently ongoing.
Earlier, police were summoned to investigate a suspicious item on Abram Close, which is connected to Rostherne Avenue, shortly after 6 pm on Saturday. A bomb disposal unit inspected the item, leading to precautionary evacuations of residents in approximately 20 nearby homes. Subsequently, the cordon was lifted, and residents were permitted to return during the evening.
On Sunday afternoon, law enforcement reinstated a cordon and evacuated several residences in the vicinity. Expert teams from the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have returned to the scene, with specialized explosive robots deployed in the area.
Speaking on the matter, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley stated, “We appreciate the understanding of everyone as we manage this situation, while our investigation into the complete circumstances progresses.
“Instances like these can provoke concern in the local community, but rest assured, there is no broader threat. Numerous road closures are enforced, so it is advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
“Officers are present to ensure the safety of individuals in the nearby vicinity – feel free to approach them with any worries. As our efforts persist, it is crucial that anyone possessing information – no matter how trivial – shares it with us to aid in the investigation.”
