A man who engaged in inappropriate conversations with an undercover officer posing as a 12-year-old girl online, using the screenname “Paedo Daddy,” has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.
Philip Norris, aged 48, exchanged disturbing messages with the officer, expressing interest in meeting up despite being unaware that he was communicating with law enforcement in an undercover operation. Following the incident, he was prohibited from having contact with minors, yet he continued to reside with his partner and her young daughter, even participating in school-related activities.
During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, it was revealed that Norris had engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the undercover officer on social media platforms between July and October of 2024. The prosecutor, Iain Criddle, highlighted that Norris made inappropriate remarks and even shared explicit content.
Upon his arrest on October 10, authorities found 125 indecent images of children on Norris’s electronic devices, including highly disturbing content categorized as the most severe form of abuse. He admitted to several charges and was instructed to register as a sex offender, which he failed to comply with fully.
Despite his lack of prior convictions, Norris’s defense attorney acknowledged his client’s wrongdoing and attributed it to personal struggles, including a difficult divorce and financial hardships. Norris expressed remorse for his actions and detailed his challenges in maintaining relationships, leading him to seek solace online.
Consequently, Norris was sentenced to imprisonment for offenses related to sexual communications with a child, possession of indecent images, and failure to comply with legal obligations. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes and the potential harm posed to children, leading to the decision of immediate custody.
Additionally, Norris was issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
