A man has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a series of thefts, culminating in the theft of a full display of Mini Eggs from a Tesco store. Ashley Daley, aged 39, committed thefts at multiple locations in Cardiff, Taff’s Well, Merthyr Tydfil, Chepstow, and Caldicot, resulting in £4,000 in losses. According to a spokesperson from the South Wales Police, Daley carried out a planned spree of thefts over three weeks in southern Wales and Gwent, focusing on various supermarkets without attempting to hide his identity. His thefts, including stealing meat, Easter eggs, and alcohol, were captured on camera, with one incident involving the entire display of Mini Eggs being taken without any attempt to conceal the act.

Daley was apprehended by officers on February 21 after committing a theft and was found in possession of a kitchen knife at the time of arrest. During questioning by the police, Daley remained uncooperative, refusing to provide any comments regarding his criminal activities. Subsequently, he admitted to 12 counts of theft, one attempted theft, and possession of a bladed weapon, leading to a four-month imprisonment.

There were instances where store surveillance footage suggested Daley might have had assistance from a female accomplice, though no official confirmation has been provided by the South Wales Police regarding an investigation into her involvement. Detective Constable Warriner, the investigating officer, disclosed that Daley had been involved in shoplifting not only in Wales but also across the West Midlands.

DC Warriner commented on Daley’s actions, highlighting his blatant disregard for the law and the financial and emotional impact his crimes have on businesses and their employees. The officer expressed relief that Daley’s criminal activities had been halted, preventing further harm to businesses across the UK.
