A man suspected of attempted murder in connection with a child entering a crocodile enclosure at a zoo has been granted bail due to being deemed unfit for interrogation. The 30-year-old individual, a resident of Norfolk, was apprehended on Thursday following the zoo owner’s intervention to rescue the critically injured three-year-old boy, who was reportedly thrown into the enclosure. The man, unrelated to the toddler, was found unsuitable for questioning by Cambridgeshire Police and is scheduled for bail until September 18. The young boy, from Cambridgeshire, is currently hospitalized in critical but stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital following the incident at Johnson’s of Old Hurst near Huntingdon.

Local sources revealed that Tracey Johnson, co-owner of the zoo alongside her husband Andy, courageously entered the enclosure to save the child from the crocodile. Chris Newman, director of the national center for reptile welfare, praised Tracey’s bravery, emphasizing that her actions were in line with her character. The Johnson family, who have been working with crocodiles for two decades, were observed engaging with staff at the zoo post-incident.

The zoo, situated in a serene countryside setting in Old Hurst village, houses various animals, including lions, tigers, and crocodiles. Despite the tragic event, the facility has been commended for its exemplary operation by officials and neighbors. The incident has sparked shock and concern among the local community, with authorities emphasizing the ongoing investigation into the matter.

Following the distressing occurrence, Johnson’s announced the temporary closure of the Tropical House as a gesture of respect to the affected family. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, with heightened security measures observed at the site. The incident has prompted reflections on safety measures at the zoo and expressions of support for the victim and their family from public figures and officials.
