A video captured a mail carrier in an England jersey kicking a blind shih tzu so forcefully that the dog had to be euthanized. The incident occurred after the postman delivered a package at Eve Lewis’ residence in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, last weekend.
Ethel, an 11-year-old partially blind shih tzu with only one tooth, was kicked high into the air like a football, causing fatal organ failure. Eve, the dog’s owner, expressed shock at the brutality, emphasizing that Ethel posed no threat due to her age and health condition.
The postman, who is an NHS worker and a parent to a five-year-old son and a French bulldog named Stanley, remorsefully learned that the dog couldn’t be saved. Despite efforts to stabilize Ethel’s condition, she succumbed to brain damage, leading Eve to make the difficult decision to put her down.
Eve shared her devastation over losing Ethel, whom she affectionately called Ethel 2.0 due to her resilience after previous surgeries. She urged for awareness and prevention of similar incidents, expressing a mix of sorrow and anger over the traumatic event.
Royal Mail is currently investigating the matter and has pledged to cover the veterinary expenses incurred. A spokesperson for Royal Mail expressed regret over the distressing episode, highlighting the company’s commitment to animal welfare and employee safety.
Thames Valley Police confirmed their awareness of the incident, describing it as a case of criminal damage and animal mistreatment. While no arrests have been made, ongoing investigations and protective measures are in place to address the incidents.
