For the past four years, I have faithfully used Lush hair products, sticking to my tried and tested favorites without deviation. The products that have become my staples are Big shampoo or Swell, paired with either Veganese or American Cream conditioner. It took me some time to discover this winning combination, but I have grown fond of it.
When I stumbled upon the release of a Snow Fairy shampoo by Lush on TikTok, my interest was piqued. I was curious to know if it carried the same scent as the sprays, if it contained glitter, and how it would affect my hair. Could it possibly turn my hair pink?
Snow Fairy holds a special place among my favorite Lush scents, and every year when it makes its return, I am among the first to grab some new products.
Recently, Lush introduced the Super Fairy collection, a delightful fusion of Super Milk and Snow Fairy, which I have become completely obsessed with.
I can confirm that the shampoo indeed has a similar scent to the spray, albeit slightly less sweet, which is not surprising.
However, what caught me off guard was the intense pigmentation of the product! It almost resembles hair dye!
The bottle cautions against leaving it on dry hair for too long as it might actually stain the hair… and as someone who has never dyed their hair, I must admit, this prospect excited me a bit.
One TikTok user, Aimee (@love_lushie), shared her experience with the Snow Fairy shampoo, revealing that it turned her bleached money pieces pink when she left it on for an hour, rather than just using it as a shampoo. She also noted that individual results may vary.
The warning on the website states, “This product is intentionally pigmented, so be cautious with application,” which prompted me to thoroughly rinse the shower afterwards. Nevertheless, it was all in good fun.
Upon dispensing the shampoo on my hand, I was taken aback. The glittery, vibrant pink hue seemed to immediately stain my hand, let alone my hair! I was almost convinced it would leave a lasting mark.
Nervously, I eyed my trusty ‘Big’ shampoo, contemplating whether it was too late to switch back to that. Ultimately, I decided to proceed, lathering the Snow Fairy shampoo in my hands and adding water to wash my hair thoroughly. Similar to Big, it appeared to be a one-wash-and-done shampoo, which suits my preference.
As I massaged the product into my hair, part of me hoped for a hint of color payoff, although realistically, I knew it was unlikely given that my hair is not bleached.
After rinsing it out, my shower exuded a delightful aroma, and my hair felt remarkably clean. Transitioning from a salt shampoo to a more conventional product felt unusual but refreshing.
Following my routine of conditioning the ends with Veganese, completing my shower rituals, and towel-drying my hair, I cautiously inspected the ends for any pink tint.
Unsurprisingly, my hair hadn’t transformed into a pink hue, leaving me slightly disappointed. However, I was impressed by the cleanliness and the lovely fragrance lingering in my hair.
After allowing it to air-dry for a bit, applying my usual products, and utilizing the Snow Fairy hair primer, which I found to be even more fragrant than the Super Milk hair primer, I gave it a quick blow-dry.
One notable observation about this shampoo is that it seemed to brighten my hair. While I have never dyed my hair (except for a temporary dip dye in my teenage years), I did notice my darker blonde hair appearing slightly lighter.
As I examined my hair, I couldn’t help but think that it looked visibly brighter than usual. The real test will be how long it takes for my hair to become greasy, determining whether this shampoo will become a regular in my lineup. With Big, I can go nearly two weeks without washing my hair.
However, past experiences with other products have left my hair looking greasy immediately post-wash, so it ultimately depends on what works best for each individual.
Thus far, I can confidently say that I am impressed with the
