The King received assistance from a senior aide to cool down during a climate change event held in sweltering conditions. The event, attended by delegates from various fields, including politics and science, took place at St James’s Palace due to the scorching heat. The lack of air conditioning in the historic building led to the use of electric fans and traditional hand-held fans for guests’ comfort.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of addressing super-pollutants to combat the climate crisis. The event, part of London Climate Action Week, featured speakers such as Mia Mottley, the prime minister of Barbados, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Later in the day, the King engaged in other activities in London, meeting the Afghan Refugee Women’s cricket team and surprising a student with a Jiu Jitsu black belt at a martial arts school visit. Reflecting on his Navy experience, the King participated in a belt presentation ceremony at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.

The busy day in the heat highlighted the urgency of climate action as extreme temperatures become more commonplace. The event underscored the global efforts needed to address environmental challenges and reduce emissions to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
